In this blog, I will show you how to get everything as quick as possible. First, I'll have to teach you about the reset trick, or "soft resetting".
What is the reset trick?[]
Soft resetting/the reset trick is a non-standard feature in any video game. You do this by saving your game, then either closing the software or turning the console off and back on again. Since certain things reset every half-day, you can use the trick to get the things you want by saving before the halfway point of the cycle, then coming back afterwards. If you're looking for something and you don't like what you see, soft reset and do it again.
Uses of soft resetting[]
Favors[]
You may use the trick to reset favors in Castleton.
- Save your game before the change to nighttime.
- Come back at the time change.
- Check the favors. If there are none you particularly like, soft reset.
- Check the favors again. Keep doing this until you find at least one favor that you think will benefit you.
Nice![]
You can also get Nice! quickly from others.
- Use an Ace Ensemble to get Nice!
- Soft reset.
- The Nice! counter will reset. Once you arrive back in Castleton, characters will give you Nice! for the same outfit you were wearing.
Cards[]
Use this to get new cards.
- Save in front of a character whose card you want.
- Do a greeting and get a card.
- If the card is a duplicate or you don't want it, soft reset.
- Keep attempting until you get the card you like. This can also be done at parties, and can also be used to avoid getting duplicates with the Chamberlain.
McDuck's[]
The stock in McDuck's changes every time you enter. With that in mind, here's how to use the trick in conjunction with the store:
- Save in front of McDuck's.
- Enter and look at the stock.
- If you don't like anything you see, soft reset and do it again.
Alternatively, you may save INSIDE the store and wait for the halfway time change to occur. Once it does, the stock will change. If you don't like anything being sold, soft reset and repeat.
Shop of Wonder[]
To get Charms of your choice:
- Save in front of the Shop of Wonder.
- Enter the shop and look at the charms. If there are no charms you like, soft reset and enter the shop again to see what charms are inside.
Garden[]
Seeds: see the "Gardening" section for materials below:
Help with gardening: Owl and Tigger are very helpful in the field; they water all the plants and remove all the weeds, respectively. You can soft reset to trigger one of their appearances.
How to get EVERYTHING quickly[]
Now for the main part: How to get everything in the game as quickly as possible!
Materials[]
There are several ways to get materials in the game rapidly.
Episodes[]
No soft-resetting is required for this.
- Enter an episode of your choice.
- Preferably enter an episode with a material you want.
- Repeat the episode(s) over and over again.
- Congratulations! You have now stocked up on materials. Do this as many times as you like until you're satisfied with what you have.
Fishing[]
This doesn't work for quests, since fish don't respawn in episodes in DMW1 and you can't save in quests.
- Save in front of a fishin' hole.
- Fish.
- Either wait for the fish to respawn or soft reset to make them come back more quickly.
- Rinse and repeat. This is useful for getting rare items from fish.
Gardening[]
- Buy a Seed of Bounty from the Shop of Wonder. Buy as many as you like; also buy Seeds of Sprouting if you want.
- Enter the 100 Acre Wood.
- If your garden is a 4x4 square, plant 4 Seeds of Bounty in the middle.
- Plant whichever seeds you want around them. This is especially useful if you're looking to harvest a chain of seeds.
- Wait. Water the plants if needed.
- Harvest the results and hope that you got a new or better seed. If you did, good for you! If not, then you may save outside the Wood and soft reset if you don't like the results. Keep doing this for as long as you like.
Honey[]
- Get seeds of a plant that allows a certain type of honey to spawn in the trees. If you're feeling adventurous, get 16 of the seeds you need,
- Plant the seeds and water the plants.
- Once the plants bloom, leave them there.
- Wait.
- If at least one day has passed, you should have your trees filled with the type of honey that plant produces and more.
Coins[]
Method 1:
- Repeat all of the "Materials" steps above to get tons of materials.
- Make new café recipes.
- If you can, make dishes with high prices.
- Wait for the food to sell out.
- Afterwards, check your payload. You're likely to have gotten rich quick if the items were expensive enough.
- Then, do the above steps some more.
- Fill up the party gauge.
- Hold a party!
- EVEN MORE COINS!
- Repeat the cycle.
Method 2:
- Get tons of rare items via the "Materials" steps.
- Go to McDuck's.
- Talk to Scrooge and sell the items to him.
- MORE CASH!... though not as much as method 1.
Nice![]
There is a trick for Nice! points. If you're wearing an Ace Ensemble and get Nice! points from characters, you can change to another ensemble, and they will still award you with compliments. Here's how the plan is in action:
- Wear an Ace Ensemble.
- Earn Nice! from everyone in town.
- Change to another Ace Ensemble.
- Get Nice! from everyone in town.
- Change to another Ace Ensemble, rinse and repeat.
- After you've used up all your outfits, soft reset, and the Nice! counter will reset too.
- Show off your Ace Ensemble to get Nice! from everyone in town, change to another ensemble to get even more Nice! from characters, repeat...
- NICE POINTS FOR DAYS!
